The amazing ‘space tower’ will be TWICE the height of Mount Everest

A NEW tower that will be TWICE the height of Mount Everest has been given the go ahead.
The 12.4 mile high ‘space tower’ will be used as a pick-up point for astronauts and a refuelling station for rockets.
The plan is for astronauts to ascend 20 kilometres up the tower and then launch into space from there, saving 30 per cent of fuel that would normally be used.
To put the space tower in perspective, it will be more than 20 times taller than the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

The tower, conceived by Thoth Technology, is planned for a site in Canada and will be built in sections that are pneumatically pressurised with a number of cells. It will mean it is steadied by being inflatable.
Planning officials in Canada have now given the project the go-ahead.
Brendan Quine, the inventor of the tower, said: “‘Astronauts would ascend to 20km by electrical elevator. From the top of the tower, space planes will launch in a single stage to orbit, returning to the top of the tower for refuelling and reflight.’
