Microsoft creates real Star Wars holograph so people can be in two places at once
Microsoft has made Star Wars-style holographic communication possible with its new HoloLens.
The technology giant is yet to release the HoloLens as its technology experts continue to experiment with what it is capable of doing.
But this latest feature has got us very excited.
Dubbed ‘Holoportation’ by Microsoft’s I3D research group, the HoloLens can project a live image of one person to another person in a different room.
3D cameras are used to capture a user’s movement and speech before sending that data to another HoloLens user, making the iconic conversations between Darth Vader and The Emperor in Star Wars a very real possibility.
Another fun feature is that a ‘Holoportation’ can be recorded and played back at a later time – and you can even shrink or enlarge the size you want the images to be projected at.
It is not clear when Microsoft will release the HoloLens and its features to the public.
